Casinos & Gambling in Alabama

Alabama does not roll off the tongue when you think of a gambling state, but there are more and more casinos appearing in the state, Gambling in Alabama, as in other places is fast becoming a part of the local economy. The Alabama state legislators are fast realizing that gambling in many forms can prop up the economy. Alabama itself is strategically situated next to Mississippi. The casino boats and gambling here are a draw that the Alabama casinos are taking advantage of.

Gambling instantly makes you think of money. That’s how it is now and that’s how it was then. So where are the Alabama Casinos? Gambling has basically lured millions of people to spend their money because of the possibility that they can win more money. Alabama as most other states want you to visit their casinos, they want you to gamble in their state. The competition between states for your hard earned cash is fantastic. Alabama is as pro-active as any other state when it comes to luring you into it’s casinos. The possibility that people can change their destiny one of these days is such an attraction to everyone. That’s why there are so many Casinos found in the United States.

In the United States alone there are about 48 states where gambling’s legal. But it took time before this could happen. Gambling in the United States started in during the 1600s which was brought by the English as part of their recreation. Gambling became a popular and accepted activity in most English colonies. And through the years, you would find dice and card games, horse racings and lotteries as some of the form of gambling that were played in the United States.

There are several types of Gambling found in Alabama. The most popular form of gambling in Alabama is Bingo which one of the more popular numbers game. There are also the Slot Machines. Definitely, you will find a small amount of everything in Alabama. There are a few Indian casinos. There are some greyhound and horse tracks for pari-mutuel enthusiasts.

Pari-Mutuel which is defined as “a system of betting on races whereby the winners divide the total amount bet, after deducting management expenses, in proportion to the sums they have wagered individually”. Pari-Mutuel literally means betting amongst ourselves. When you place a wager at a facility, you are not betting against the "house" as you would be if you were wagering at a casino. Instead, you are betting your choice or choices against those of every other patron. High speed totalisator computers calculate odds for each entry as wagers are placed. This information is broadcast to the infield tote board and closed circuit monitors, for specific pools, to inform patrons of changing odds information as wagers are placed. Since 1999, thousands of Video poker has appeared across Alabama. This is a fast-action, low-stakes game that is as easy to play as a slot machine. These machines pay off winners in coupon or gift certificates. Several businesses in Alabama such as truck stops, convenience stores, few arcades and some other businesses have been offering nothing these video pokers. According to the Alabama Department of Public Safety, as many as 15,000 machines may already be in the state.

Alabama Gambling Attractions

Even though, there are not much casinos found in Alabama, the casinos located in Alabama do offer craps, roulette, poker, blackjack a variety of slots and more. They are open 24 hours a day. One popular casino found in Atmore, Alabama is Creek Indian Bingo Palace which offers the largest high stakes Indian Bingo in the South and the newest State-of-the-Art Electronic Gaming Machines. There is also the Riverside Entertainment Center which is located at Wetumpka, Alabama. It is open seven days a week and offer Electronic Gaming Machines. For those who enjoy greyhound races, there’s the Birmingham Greyhound Racing which is located at Birmingham, Alabama. They have live greyhound racing and simulcast greyhound and horse racing from all over the country 52 weeks a year. They are considered in having one of the best in simulcast wagering opportunities from both greyhound and thoroughbred facilities across the nation. They allow advance wagering except in multi - race wagers. Alabama as you see may not be a Las Vegas or Atlantic City but they do have Casinos that may interest you and provide you amenities that you look for. Thought still struggling in the Casino industry nevertheless the Casinos in this State are competitive.

Casinos in the United States

In the past decade or so, the Gambling industry boomed across the United States such as in Mississippi, Chicago, Delaware and etc. Before this Las Vegas and Atlantic City were the legalized gambling haven found in the US. These two places are considered as havens because they are marketed as a tourist attraction where you can seek your fortunes. You will find different packages for these places online or your regular travel agencies. Today, you will find various casinos scattered all over the country such as the traditional casinos, Indian casinos, “Racinos” (slot machines or video poker found at dog or horse race tracks), and Riverboat Casinos. Even though some States have statewide legalized gambling there are some States such as Alabama that does not have a statewide legalized gambling. Alabama has long been a hot bet of casino controversy. There have been moves in Congress to make the State of Alabama a statewide gambling haven because they think that it will attract more tourists to their State and it is believed that it will create a significant number of jobs. But since it’s taking awhile to legalize gambling in Alabama, many in the state are upset that precious gaming revenue is being lost as Alabama gamblers' head for the state line of Mississippi to get their gambling fix. Alabama remains almost casinofree.

For gambling in Alabama you will find a small amount of everything - a few indian casinos do the state as well as some greyhound and horse tracks for pari-mutuel enthusiasts.

While Alabama might not be the best state to travel to for gambling there is some to be had, and next door in Mississippi there is a serious party going on.
