I was playing an online real money 1-table sit and go ($5 buy in), early in the tourney I was dealt pocket 6's. I called the 30 dollar big blind knowing that I wasn't that strong. 5 players left in the flop when it hits...6AA. I am thinking perfect as I have been playing tight up until that point.
I go all in thinking at worst I can steal the pot until now. everyone folds but one player who calls with A4. Suits arent really an issue on this one as they didnt match anything.
So I am thinking sweet as the next card shown was a 2.
Then the river hits......4!!! I lose to a higher full house.
My question is, did I play this too aggressive or was my move the right move? Thank you for your time and advice ahead of time. |

| Well for one I think it was a bad call by the other player. See what I think is wrong with this, is your pre-flop action. I feel you needed to make a good size raise. Like if you had 1500 chips you should have raised 500 pre-flop. This way you get rid of all the half way descent hands like A 4. Then if everyone folds you are still left with the original $30 from each player. But over all it was just a bad beat. It was a bad call by the other player and you were out drawn. This situation is truly a tipical hand that knocks people out of tourneys. Pro's even. They might not have moved all in on the flop but the hand would have taken them for all there money sooner or later. |

| Thank you for the input, now this begs the question, what is the proper open for pocket 6's? Any thoughts? |

I disagree.
First off, whether or not you play 66 in a sitngo depends on a few things. The first is table position. I'll raise this from early position - CERTAINLY not 1/3 of my chip stack - that's transparent for a weak hand. Early on, I'd say it's worth 1/10th. This SHOULD fold A4, but a lot of idiots will play it, even though it's a downright shitty hand. Even if an ace does come, your kicker is so bad, how do you play it? It's comparable to say a J8. Shitty. Now, because you raised preflop, he could put you on AK and maybe fold that A4 down to your all in.
Secondly, unless you're under the gun, or on the button, I probably wouldn't play this hand until later on in the tourney. Let people beat each other up, show a tight image, and then let 'em have it late in the tourney. Why mix it up when you can practically sit out until 6 people are gone? |
