Playing in the PokerStar 10+1 rebuy...

Blinds are 50/100...I've got about 6400 which is middle of the road at my table. I'm just to the right of the button holding As Kc Large stack (9800) UTG+1 limps...small stack behind him is all in for about 900. I put the small stack on a medium pair. Figure I have to take some chances to continue to build my stack, but with the big stack limper I'm a little wary that he may have a big pair (not aces) but I wouldn't be surprised if he has Ax.

1. How would you play it here?

Because of my reasoning I decided I wanted to scare out Ax but leave myself enough to get away if he came over the top of me with a big one. I simply doubled the 900 dollar bet. To my surprise he called me...making me think he probably had a pair of some sort.

Flop comes...

Ac 2s 3s

2. How do you play it now?

My logic was that I had the hand won, at this point. The big stack checked to me and I moved in...just in case to protect against a draw. If he had AK and we tied so be it.

He quickly called and showed Ad 3d I don't see how I could have put him on this hand. Perhaps my preflop raise should've been all in, thus assuring me that it would've been heads up...however, I still wasn't certain that he wasn't limping a big pp.

1/10 of his stack on A-3? he must have put you an K-Q or something, but that is still a horrible play for him to make

Is this guy an idiot or what? By my calculations, the guy with the big stack called 1700 cold with A3. How could he think he could possibly be ahead here? One guy is already all in and you come over the top of him for another 900. Certainly he could think the guy with 900 chips might be desperate, but when you raised again, he's got to put somebody on a legitimate hand. He called down way too much of his stack here with his cards.

I agree he made a retarded play. However, he could've put me on a pp too and just hoped he hit his ace...I guess.

I guess I should've simply moved in and not worried about the big pp.

I agree with the previous posts- it is a horrible call with Ad3d. Now after the short stack moved all in i would generally try to protect the pot (raise like you did) however if the player had been traping, slow playing, limping in with big hands the move is just to call. So the idea here is to know your player. The question cannot be correctly answered if you are not familiar with the player. It is more of a generalization.

"Because of my reasoning I decided I wanted to scare out Ax but leave myself enough to get away if he came over the top of me with a big one. I simply doubled the 900 dollar bet. "

You said that you wanted to scare out Ax but not get too into the pot that you cant muck your hand. That is a good reasoning if you know he is a tight player. However if it is a loose player then you may feel compfortable on not leaving yourself an easy way to get out.

All in against a bad loose player isnt a bad move... maybe KQ suited or low to mid pockets. Assuming you dont have him on pocket aces.

His play wasn't great, but I wouldn't call it retarded - after all, depending on the situation A3 can be a reasonable hand to play.

I think your problem was you made it too cheap for him to stay in - a bigger raise preflop or even after the flop might have given you a free pot.

Even still, I wouldn't have put him on A3, I would have been thinking more A10 or KJ, something along those lines.
