In satellite online tourney, I had roughly $2000 in chips. 60 out of 110 remaining. I'm in late position. blinds were 40/80.

Guy limped in with A8s and I limped in with AQos. Everyone else folded. heads up action.

Flopped came Qh,4c,8s. pot size was around $600 at the time. guy checks it to me and I made a bet of $500. top pair and ace kicker, no brainer I would bet a decent sized bet. This guy had around same chip count as me so when I bet 25% of his stack, I assume he would've folded. he calls me. turn comes a club. I then moved in for the rest of my chips ($1500) and he called.

He was on a F-in DRAW with 2nd pair! I had top pair with ace kicker but with no draw. rivered me with another club and made his flush. F*cked up thing is when he flipped over his cards, I kinda laughed and didn't pay attention cause I thought I won. next thing you no, "YOU FINISHED IN 60TH PLACE."

Anyways, I am not mad that he rivered me. I can never get mad about that part of poker. However, Do you guys think I should've moved in after the flop or at least made it an over over over the top bet?

Now that I re-assess my play, I think I played it wrong by not betting more or moving in on the flop. With the size of the blinds and the bets, I should've known I'd be pot committed.

By the looks of your betting the guy seems to be agressive and plays alot of hands.

Anyways,"Guy limped in with A8s and I limped in with AQos. Everyone else folded. heads up action." Why did you limp in with AQos? I would have raised around 3x-4x the big blind. He probably would have folded on the pre-flop or when you made that bet of $500 on the flop.

i had a similar situation tonight. blinds 200/400 25 ante. i raise to 600 with AQs and everyone folds and a guy reraises to 2000. i reraise all in with my remaining 1500 and he calls and turns over KK. i catch a Q on the flop but no other help. was this a bad play? should i not play AQ so aggressive?

The thing is I HATE PLAYING AQ. It's one of those hands that can get you into a lot of trouble (as it did for me). and being off suit didn't make it any better.

I don't like raising with that hand because I prefer to get a flop for as cheap as I can with that hand.

He was aggressive and that worried me so I tried to be careful not to go all in with him cause I know he would call.

and with AQ, it is NEVER a good hand to go all in with. AK is already borderline to go all in with in my book.

You have to wonder what a guy would have to make a bet that would put you all in. He wouldn't make it unless he knew he had something good.

When the words all in are brought up pre-flop, the only four hands I can think of are AA,KK,AK or QQ.

If you don't have any of those hands, I wouldn't call. (even with QQ, you might be in trouble)

Don't move in preflop but raise it to about $300 with your AQo from late position. It's big enough to force out an EP limper, but small enough to get away from if EP decides to move in over the top of you.

ace spaid, it's not a bad play to raise AQ, but you should have laid it down when you got raised all in. AJ, AQ, A10 - trouble hands that get you trapped in a hand you have a tough time getting away from.
