We all know online poker rewards bad play. But is there any way to get a bad player off a marginal hand? By marginal hand, I mean those hands that bad players suckout and waste you on (ace/low kicker, k/j, etc) and most good players throw away when facing any kind of raise.
Example: one table sit and go, five hands in. I get aces on the button. Two players limp in, third guy raises some weird amount. I know if I just call, I'll let too many people in the hand and there's already a lot of money on the table, so I move all in and he calls. He has K/J and sucks out a straight.
Would a smaller reraise have gotten him off the hand? Or was I just another victim of "call every all-in an pray" syndrome? |

He was either an idiot or overly confident. An all in so early is generally enough to scare anyone off with anything less than a high pocket pair, so the guy played a dangerous game and struck it lucky. Personally, if I were him with that hand, I would probably have folded as soon as you hit all-in but that's just me.
You were undone by either some very smart play or an idiot... or possibly smart play by an idiot. I call all-in more than I should do to get people to back down. I normally wait till I've got a very good hand in front of me, but occasionally throw it in early in a hand and pickup blinds and raises without too much fuss. |
