Ok, this isn't really related to Alabama, however, it's one of those things I HAVE to share and find out what people think!
New Zealand's largest gambling company, and other companies will be required to show pop-up messages telling consumers how much they've won or lost, how long they have been on the slot machine and will interrupt play for 15 seconds out of every 30 minutes to do this. Why? Because the government says too many residents have gambling problems.
Now, I'm sure the idea is to help people, but how would YOU react to this?[/quote] |

Before I vote I think you should add the option
"I'd care, but I won't change"

I tried to post something like that... I guess I'm not as post-savvy as I thought!
I probably wouldn't change either, but if there was a choice between casinos that used pop-ups and ones that didn't, I would definitely drive a bit more to the casino that did not use pop-ups. |

Reviving what is a little bit of an old post, I would say that I would largely not care but would be inclined to go elsewhere. Perhaps because I'm not addicted to gambling I know how much money I'm putting into machines, but it might be a bit of an eye opener for some that don't really realise how much they are losing.
Nice idea but I think I'd get pretty fed up of being watched by a machine and told how much I've put in it thus far. |

| I don't think I would play at a casino that had pop-ups on slot machines. It would be very distracting and I usually keep track of what I've put in..when the money is gone, I know it! I think it would add some frustration to see how far you had to go before you came out ahead, take away the fun of it. |

I'm not a big fan, though to pass the time and if I'm not feeling particularly on the ball, they are good for a few spins.
I see far too many people throwing too much money away to ever get serious about them, though. |

| I agree with you that lots of people throw away the money they need to live on. I always think of slots as part of a vacation, perhaps, money that I would have set aside for entertainment, if that's what I choose to do. I'm prepared to lose, knowing it's been fun for a while. Of course, winning is nice too. |

I love a spin on the bandits, though I'm as guilty as anyone of putting more in than I get out.
I think I just love being able to have a gamble without others inteferring - I like playing the odd hand of Blackjack don't get me wrong, though the thrill of going for a jackpot on a machine does it for me.
Therefore... I'd probably gamble elsewhere if possible. It wouldn't put me off completely, but I'm still capable of counting how much I've spent thanks! |

| I usually try a machine with $20 or so, if it's paying back sometimes, I'll stay with it for a while. But, if I've put in enough and no return, I move on to another machine. Sometimes I've put in a $1.00 and it immediately hits something, so I sit down there for a while...and so it goes. As you can tell, no big spender here! |

Hehe, too right - a friend of mine plays the old fruit machines the same way. He'll even go around asking if it's paid out recently, if not in goes a few quid and more often than not the git will come back with a jackpot.
I'm sure he must had a hammer in his pocket... |

If there is any...I also watch some of the machines that people keep pouring money into. Should they get up and leave without hitting much of anything, I'll go there. Sometimes it seems it takes a certain amount to load the thing, before it pays off. Who knows, but it has worked a few times. Strangely enough too, the machines closer to the center of the casino are better than playing in some corner. It's all luck I assume anyway, but it's fun to think you've figured out some sort of strategy.. |

Hehe, indeed - I would have thought they all had a kind of standard chance of paying out, otherwise people would make sure that they never paid out surely
He seems to think he knows what he's doing too, I just reckon he's a lucky sob |
