1 player is just having unbelievable luck. In a 6-handed game, this person was winning at least 1 out of 3 hands. Anytime he got a big hand, it held up. Gapped connectors hit the straight. 2 suited hole cards either hit a flush or made 2 pair. And when all else failed, he could always rely on the river to pair up his A over someone's KK. Over one stretch of 2 rounds, he won 8 hands.

I was at the table for about 50 hands. I won 3 hands, 2 of which were minimal pots. I lost with AA (in which our hero beat me with T2 in hole), AK, JJ, AT. I finally just ate my losses and left the table.

Is this the best course of action in this situation. Should I have left even sooner, as soon as it became evident 1 person was going to win everything?

Not sure about leaving earlier, but if your losing alot of money... maybe.

I think thats just the way it is sometimes. Last night we had a small home game. 3 players, Me and my two kids... home from school.

One was catching everything... It was so bad, we were laughing at the ability to tell what he had in his hand by looking at the flop! Every hand he either out drew us or flopped a monster.

Busted my set of Queens by rivering a straight. Finally, my daughter was down way low in chips and she was waiting for a big hand to push it all in. She gets AJs and he calls with 34o.... river straight at the end.

We've all seen those hot streaks people get on... not much you can do about it. Poker is a long term game. Keep playing correctly and it'll come around.

People just have a good night now and again. If he did it regularly, yeah I'd be getting frustrated, but at times like that it's time to play super tight poker and minimise your loss.

I wouldn't say back away from the table instantly, but do only play big hands and only stay in when you've got AA, KK, AK, suited top cards and so forth. Yes you can still lose even with these as you found out to your expense, but marginal hands are just too risky with someone on a streak.

As deepblue says, some people just have a good night every now and then. But, no, leaving early would not have made things any better. Probably what you should have done was try getting one of the other players to switch seats with you. This would exchange the way the cards would be being played, and most likely set your odds a bit more even. But then again, its always hard to say for sure. Usually when someone is on a winning streak like that, all you can do is ride it out and hope the luck changes.

I'm sure that someone will be willing to swap seats - "Excuse me, I'm getting crap hands, fancy a go in my seat?" Smile

True enough though, streaks come and go and most are purely psychological, so ride it out and keep things tight for a while and try and take 1 or 2 pots in 25 hands if thats what it takes.
