If SB hadn't re-raised, you would call. But someone willing to make 2.5 bets out of position against represented strength in position is either completely full of it or on something very good, and you are facing a bigger PP or two overcards from the button. Against two players with strong hands, a small PP is no bargain.

The odd exception to this is that against 4-5 players in such a pot, the small PP has much more value, as the set pays off bigger and the overcards may be more split up.

One had KQ, and hit his K on the river to win the pot. The other had AJ, I think.

Are there several limpers in as well? If you are first in at the cutoff, you want to bring it in with a raise if you play it at all. Folding was right after the 3-bet because your implied odds are destroyed and you are not going to be heads up.

I think that although you had a pocket pair, the raises were too rich for you to consider staying in. Without more insight, I'd of put them on higher pocket pairs or AK, AQ... or similar meaning that from the start you were at a disadvantage.

That won't come up too often, but you were right - it wasn't worth staying in with a low pair, you hadn't the cards to justify matching a reraise.
